One of eight prints of bijin (beautiful women) by eight nihonga artists included an appendix (supplement) to the magazine Shufu no Tomo (The Housewife's Friend) titled "Collection of Masterpieces of Beautiful Women in Summer Dress." Each print was reproduced from original artwork using photolithography and then mounted onto a square cardboard. Kendall Brown identifies the "golden age" of bijin kuchi-e, illustrations of beautiful women appearing in Taisho-era popular magazines, as the period between 1914 and 1921, with the genre continuing into the 1930s.
