Born in Fukushima prefecture in 1900 with the given name Sadao, he was also known as Sakauchi Hiroshi. Studied Japanese-style painting with Bannai Seiran (1881-1936). Exhibited paintings of Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido in 1927. Three of these, Nihonbashi (the print in this collection), Atsuta-Old Castle at Dawn and Lake Ashinoko, Hakone, were published as prints by Watanabe Shōzaburō in 1930.
